VB ZOOM is a collection of ActiveX COMponents, written in Visual Basic, which implement the ZOOM 1.2 (Z39.50 Object-Orientation Model) Abstract API. The current VB ZOOM is a wrapper for the YAZ Toolkit from Index Data, plus a helper component for doing MARC-8 to Unicode character conversions.
Even though the components are written in Visual Basic, they should also work from C++, Perl, Delphi, or any other programming language on the Windows platform that supports ActiveX COM Objects.
The current release is version 1.2c1.1 and can be downloaded here. The README, API documentation, and changelog are also available.
VB ZOOM is licensed under the University of Illinois/NCSA Open Source License. Yaz.dll V 2.0.1 from Index Data is also required. The Yaz license is found here. In addition the MSXML 4.0 parser from Microsoft is also required. It can be found here.

The original VB ZOOM was developed for a project called ZMARCO as part of the Open Archives Initiative Metadata Harvesting Project at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, funded by the Andrew Mellon Foundation. Continuing work on this and the ZMARCO project is being funded by a Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Illinois State Library.
